Minnesota has more than 300 living Olympians who received their K-12 education in our state. These remarkable athletes are intelligent, articulate, self-directed, persevering, and ambassadors to their communities and sport. Many become teachers and coaches! Attend this engaging and entertaining presentation that shares the lives, education, challenges, achievements, and professional careers of Olympians who have been influenced by educators and/or become educators. The results are startling!
St. Paul athletes will be highlighted including current St. Paul Public Schools teacher Liz Parr-Smestad who competed on the U. S. national bobsled team. Other St. Paul athletes featured will be former governor Wendy Anderson, identical twins Toni and Tami Jameson, hockey player Bob Paradise, soccer player Manny Lagos, and bronze medal-winning rower Matt Schnobrich.
Former governor Wendy Anderson played on the 1956 silver medal-winning Olympic hockey team; Liz Parr-Smestad, a current St. Paul teacher, was on the inaugural national women's bobsled team; Manny Lagos, now a team official for the Minnesota United football team, played the sport in the 1992 Olympics.
