Author Patrick "Packy" Mader is delighted to be invited to share his passion for Minnesota sports, history, and geography with the residents at Madonna Towers in Rochester. His book, Minnesota Gold, features the stories, lives, challenges, perseverance, and achievements of 57 Minnesota athletes who competed on the world stage--primarily the Olympics. In addition to two Rochester athlethes highlighted in his book: Mark Lutz, a sprinter in the 1976 Olympics, and Jim Johannson, a two-time member of the men's Olympic hockey teams (1988 and 1992), 2018 gold medalist Jessie Diggins and former governor Wendy Anderson, a member of the silver medal-winning 1956 Olympic hockey team, are also profiled. Other athletes from the southern Minnesota cities of Austin and Albert Lea will also be featured. Packy is currently working on a second volume which will include Rochester swimmer Sean Quackenbush and Winona runner Garrett Heath who competed in international competitions.
Also included in the presentation are athletes from every part of the state from 1948- present! Come learn about these remarkable athletes and how they have contributed to their sport and communities.
