Owatonna Rotary to Hear Stories of Minnesota Olympians Prior to 2018 Winter Olympics
Patrick "Packy" Mader is thrilled to present about Minnesota's rich sports history at the Olympics to Owatonna Rotary Club members. His book, Minnesota Gold, highlights the stories, lives, challenges, perseverance, and achievements of 57 Minnesota who competed at the international level--including people from south of the metropolitan area including Owatonna graduate Roberto Sobalvarro, coach of the 2012 epee bronze medal-winning team in London who was recently inducted into the U. S. Fencing Hall of Fame. Other athletes featured include Olympians from Austin, Albert Lea, and a Paralympian from Waseca. Packy shares the positive experience throughout his research, interviews, writing, and editing in an engaging and entertaining style. The Olympians were approachable, articulate, and modest--demonstrating Olympian character and qualities.
Roberto Sobalvarro (Owatonna), U. S. Olympic fencing coach; former governor Wendy Anderson, a 1956 hockey Olympian; Lexi Shifflet (Waseca), a member of the 2016 Olympic gold medal-winning sitting volleyball team.
