Patrick Mader - Heartwarming Stories of the Heartland

Reviews - Oma Finds a Miracle

"Oma Finds a Miracle is an equally heartwarming tale (to Opa & Oma Together) that exposes young readers to the agricultural lifestyle, the importance of women on the farm and the beauty of nature.  Themes of strength, spirit and motherhood are elegantly laced throughout, creating a strong narrative adults will enjoy.

The story is accentuated by the rich illustrations of Northfield native Andrew Holmquist, who now studies at the Art Institute of Chicago…The result is brilliant imagery reflective of the story’s emotion and its characters’ ties to the Earth."

Dan Iverson, Northfield News

Mader enjoys writing about characters that span several generations. His rural settings in both Oma Finds a Miracle and in his first picture book, Opa and Oma Together (also reviewed on Myshelf), depict the joys and dangers of life on a farm. Aided by Andrew Holmquists’s beautiful illustrations, Mader successfully weaves many positive messages throughout his sensitive story, including the determination and love of a mother for her child, whether she be human or animal. Children will enjoy listening to Oma Finds a Miracle over and over again.
