Dassel-Cokato Middle School
4852 Reardon Ave SW
Cokato, MN 55321
Some of the 57 Minnesota athletes highlighted in Minnesota Gold and forthcoming second volume More Minnesota Gold are slalom skier Tasha Nelson of Buffalo; Minnesota Lynx star and current head University of Minnesota women's basketball coach Lindsay Whalen of Hutchinson; and shotputter Ron Backes of Cold Spring. Patrick Mader is excited to be invited to Dassel-Cokato Middle School to share the lives, stories, achievements, and perseverance of Olympians from our state (including cross country skiing gold medalist Jessie Diggins and curling gold medalist Joe Polo) with this timely presentation connecting Minnesota sports and the state's history. Students, staff, and invited guests will learn about the training, skills, and the careers of these remarkable athletes. He will also share a preview of his research and interviews of 50 more Minnesota athletes he has interviewed for his forthcoming second volume.
Patrick reminds everyone that you can be an Olympian too--maybe not in athletics but as a student, parent, or by successfully following your dreams.
Lindsay Whalen was the leading scorer in the 2016 gold medal game;
Ron Backes played many sports at Cold Spring Roccori High School and later became an Olympian in shot put.
