Athletes from Arden Hills and Shoreview to be highlighted in Presentation on Minnesota Olympians
Patrick "Packy" Mader is thrilled to present Minnesota's rich sports history at the Olympics to Arden Hills and Shoreview Rotary Club members. His book, Minnesota Gold, highlights the stories, lives, challenges, perseverance, and achievements of 57 remarkable living Minnesota athletes who competed at the international level--including people from a cross section of sports from 1948 - present. He is currently working on a second volume.
Packy will be highlighting Olympians with connections to Arden Hills and Shoreview as he shares the positive experience throughout his research, interviews, writing, and editing in an engaging and entertaining style. Current Shoreview resident Buzz Schneider, Kris Kuehl, and Randy Bartz, a graduate of Mounds View, are Olympians profiled in Minnesota Gold. Athletes who will be featured in his forthcoming book are Kelly Catlin of Arden Hills (2016 silver medalist in pursuit bicycling) and Jason Hedstrand of Shoreview (speedskating). The Olympians were approachable, intelligent, articulate, and modest--demonstrating Olympian character and qualities.
Buzz Schneider, a Shoreview resident, was a member of the gold medal-winning 1980 Miracle on Ice hockey team; Randy Bartz, a Mounds View graduate, won a silver medal in speedskating; Kelly Catlin of Arden Hills won a silver medal in the 2016 Olympics in bicycling team pursuit.
