Patrick "Packy" Mader is excited for the opportunity to share his passion for Minnesota sports, history, and geography with members of the Minnesota County Engineers Society. His book, Minnesota Gold, features the stories, lives, challenges, perseverance, and achievements of 57 Minnesota athletes who competed on the world stage--primarily the Olympics. Learn how Minnesota Olympians balance profession (the program will include three Olympians who are engineers), athletic goals, and family as they compete with the world's greatest athletes in international sporting events.
A multimedia Power Point presentation will feature gold medalists such as basketball star Lindsay Whalen, and hockey legends John Mayasich and 1980 Miracle on Ice team member Buzz Schneider. Also highlighted are athletes from every part of the state from different eras and sports.
Have questions? Packy has researched the topic of Minnesota Olympians for nearly six years and is currently writing a second volume on these remarkable athletes.
Randy Bartz, a mechanical engineer, won a silver medal in the 1994 Winter Olympics in a speedskating relay; Matt Schnobrich, an environmental engineer, won a bronze medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics as member of the eight-man rowing team.
