LEAFs, a consortium of four churches promoting enrichment opportunities for seniors, has graciously invited Patrick "Packy" Mader to present a program on the lives, challenges, and achievements of Minnesota Olympians featured in his book, Minnesota Gold.
The session will feature inspirational athletes from every part of the state in a variety of eras and sports who have given back to their sport and community. Along the way, attendees will learn about state history and geography in addition to the accomplishments of these remarkable athletes.
Among those highlighted will be former governor Wendy Anderson, a member of the 1956 silver medal-winning Olympic hockey team; WNBA start and new University of Minnesota women's basketball coach, Lindsay Whalen; hockey standout John Mayasich of Eveleth, the only player whose jersey has been retired in the storied history of Gophers hockey; alpine and cross country skiers including 2018 gold medalist Jessie Diggins; and runners from around the state including marathoners Janis Klecker of Edina and Bob Kempainen of Hopkins.
Come learn and celebrate Minnesota Gold!
Former governor Wendy Anderson played in the 1956 Olympics; Lindsay Whalen was the high scorer in the 2016 gold medal game; Jessie Diggins won the first Olympic medal for American women in cross country skiing this winter.
