Intelligent, articulate, good ambassadors to their communities and sport, self-directed, persevering, and mentally and physically tough. These are characteristics of Minnesota's remarkable athletes who have participated in the Olympics. Many have become teachers and coaches and remained in our state.
Patrick will present the connection between citizenship and Minnesota's Olympians based on his research and interviews he has conducted with more than 100 Olympians and how they contribute to their communities, schools, and sport. One athlete, now a pediatrician, has made multiple mission trips to The Grenadines; another was a longtime teacher and coach in Coon Rapids who used personal funds to write a book as a fundraiser for a scholarship program; and Lindsay Whalen, a WNBA star and two-time gold medalist speaks highly of her hometown, Hutchinson, and not only speaks to the students but poses with them and her medals for most of a day in a volunteer role.
With the recent conclusion of the 2018 Winter Games and the medal-winning success of Minnesota athletes, please consider not only purchasing Minnesota Gold, the only book about Minnesota Olympians on the market, but also having Patrick speak at your school. He is a longtime elementary and middle school teacher who relates well to any audience and can make a connection of an Olympian to any area of the state.
Learn about the achievements, challenges, and inspirational lives of 57 Minnesota Olympians from a variety of sports, eras, and geographical regions of the state featured in Patrick's book, Minnesota Gold with this engaging and entertaining presentation!
An inclusive book, Minnesota Gold features basketball star and two-time gold medalist Lindsay Whalen (Hutchinson); hockey legend and member of the silver medal-winning 1972 Olympic team, Henry Boucha, a Native American from Warroad; and Paralympian Lexi Shifflett of Waseca, a member of the 2016 gold medal sitting volleyball team.
