ABOUT THE ILLUSTRATOR

BACKGROUND

Andrew Holmquist grew up surrounded by farms in the countryside of Northfield, Minnesota. From an early age he showed a strong interest in art and was encouraged to develop his talent by his parents, who are both artists and have a pottery business together. Andrew, now twenty-two years old, will be graduating in 2007 from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

ARTISTIC ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Andrew has won several local, state, and national awards for his artwork. At the age of twelve he was selected as a grand prize-winner in the Kraft Mac’ n’ Cheese “I Want The Blues” national contest.  His drawing was chosen out of over 10.000 entries from kids across the country. Two years later he won the grand prize again in a national contest sponsored by Kellogg’s Eggo Waffles, for which he built a sculpture of the sphinx out of hundreds of waffles. In  high school Andrew was the recipient of several gold and silver Scholastic Art Awards for his paintings and drawings.

Using a variety of artistic techniques, Andrew illustrated both Opa & Oma Together and Oma Finds a Miracle by Patrick "Packy" Mader.  They plan to collaborate on a third book that may be released in late 2008.

PERSONAL INFORMATION

When he is not working on his art, Andrew likes to go for walks around the city, watch movies, play videogames, read and spend time with his friends. He also loves to travel and explore the world around him when he gets the chance.
