Patrick Mader is proud to be invited to present a program on Minnesota female Olympians to a group of young women athletes at a women's empowerment symposium hosted at Waterville-Elysian-Morristown High School.
Many female Minnesota Olympians have been inspirational to other athletes in their sport and community as positive role models and persevering athletes. Among those highlighted will be Carrie Tollefson, a 13-time state cross country and track champion; Janis Klecker, an Olympic marathoner who did not start running until her senior year in high school; WNBA basketball star Lindsay Whalen who expresses great pride in her hometown of Hutchinson; Wiz Bachman, a volleyball player from Lakeville; Briana Scurry, a three-time Olympic medalist in soccer who overcame a traumatic brain injury; and Kris Kuehl, a discus thrower from a small town in southwest Minnesota.
Carrie Tollefson of Dawson was a high school and collegiate running champion; Lindsay Whalen of Hutchinson has been on two gold medal-winning Olympic teams; Briana Scurry was a member of three Olympic soccer teams and a World Cup champion team.
