Patrick "Packy" Mader is thrilled to present about Minnesota's rich sports history at the Olympics to Excelsior Rotary Club members. His book, Minnesota Gold, highlights the stories, lives, challenges, perseverance, and achievements of 57 Minnesota who competed at the international level--including people from Minnetonka and the west metropolitan area such as current Excelsior resident Trina Radke and Hopkins graduate Bob Kempainen, a two-time Olympian in the marathon. He interviewed (in person) several gold medalists and former Governor Wendy Anderson, a 1956 member of the silver medal-winning Olympic hockey team.
Packy shares the positive experience throughout his research, interviews, writing, and editing in an engaging and entertaining style. The Olympians were approachable, articulate, and modest--demonstrating Olympian character and qualities.
Trina Radke placed 5th in the 200-meter butterfly at the 1988 Olympics; Bob Kempainen competed in the marathon in two Olympics; former Governor Wendy Anderson was a defenseman for the Minnesota Gophers and on the 1956 Olympic hockey team.
